I have been tracking master relatively closely. This problem is in master as of Jun 30 2013.

mythbackend seems to create the child process for mythfilldatabase, but mythfilldatabase never creates a log file. The child process lasts for about 0.1 second. Running the mythfilldatabase command, as shown in the log, takes about 2 minutes to run, produces a log file, and successfully updates the listings.
