FE gets stuck when in livetv +PIP stuff

Livetv is playing, I take the osd menu > PIP > recorded show PIP. Recorded shows menu pops up. I decide to not choose anything, hit exit. I get wait screen with the moving indicator that something should happen, but does not happen. Atleast in timely manner. Hit exit again. Then we are on the main menu, with no reaction to keyboard by FE.

After some suggestions to the functioning of my distro (Debian), I followed the suggestions to try for example mythbuntu. I have built myth on mythbuntu 9.10, here is the info. To the user, this "freeze" seems the same as on debian.
