I still have the same symptom and since commit  925e82c39e0f250caf2b (actually, since commit d10719f, which was the commit I upgraded to), I can no longer stop the MB gracefully - by using the /etc/init.d/mythbackend stop command - after it crashes. I have to ""kill -9 mythbackend"".
