upnp shows music compilations as separate albums

I have a lot of compilation albums in my MythMusic. When accessing them via UPnP, albums with 20 different artists show up 20 times in any UPnP client I use. The ID3 tags contain both an album artist of "Various Artists" and a contributing artist with the actual artist's name - unfortunately the MythTV implementation seems to completely ignore the album artist when creating the list of albums. This is a severe problem because UPnP only supports browsing by album title and the album list is littered with multiple one-song albums that are actually all the same album.
