please backport patch from #3598 to version 0.20.x
main motivation is so that the axel can rebuild the mythtv atrpms with the patch:

FWIW this patch already made it into ATrpms' 0.20.x packages after consulting Daniel. It went in the same time the Quebec fix went in. Please try to use Pulseaudio with the current packages.
