r16240 breaks dvd playback

Description
r16240 breaks playback of most UK dvds(*). The menu works with sound, but on starting to play the program no sound is heard, and on many dvds no video is drawn either (although the picture does update if you pause/unpause etc).
r16588 is working fine with just r16240 reverted out.
(*) I've only tried UK dvds and none of the ones I tried worked.
