MythTV hangs (when doing listing update?) if Schedules Direct not available

Description

It appears this problem only ever occurs when Schedules Direct is not availalble. (Internet down, and also happened when my Schedules Direct subscription needed renewing.) When the Schedules Direct is not avaialbe, it seems to hang the MythTV Frontend. (Any process, but only the frontend, not the PC.) These hangs go away after quite a few minutes pass. The hangs never seem to occur unless Internet is not available, and also repeated when the Schedules Direct subscription ended.

After renewing the Schedules Direct subscription WHILE the hanging was taking place, less than two minutes passed and the system un-froze. Could just be coincidence, but no hangs happened afterwards either.

No idea what happened but it seems pretty easy to work around.
